How to Replace Cone Crusher Concave & Mantle

Safely replacing the concave and mantle in your cone crusher is critical to maintaining production efficiency and equipment longevity. Follow this professional step-by-step guide provided by the technical team at Future Green Machinery (FGM).

Cone Crusher Maintenance and Liner Replacement
01

Preparation & Safety

  • Consult the Manual: Always start by reviewing the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific cone crusher model.
  • Wear PPE: Heavy-duty gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection are mandatory.
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO): De-energize the machine and lock controls to prevent accidental startup.
  • Declutter the Area: Clear debris and obstacles for safe crane operation and efficient access.
02

Remove the Old Liners

  • Remove the feed plate from the top of the assembly.
  • Loosen or cut off the locking ring/nut (using a torch ring if it’s seized), then unscrew it safely.
  • Use a certified crane or hoist to carefully lift the mantle off the crusher head.
  • Chip away old backing materials (e.g., epoxy) from both the head and the concave.
  • Remove the concave using a lifting device or specialized extraction tool.
03

Inspect & Prep the Crusher

  • Surface Inspection: Check for deep wear, structural damage, or debris on the seating surfaces.
  • Component Inspection: Assess whether the head center or locking nuts also require replacement.
  • Clean Thoroughly: Ensure all surfaces are wiped clean, dry, and ready to seat the new components.
04

Install the New Concave & Mantle

  • Position the new FGM concave correctly inside the upper shell.
  • Mix the recommended backing material (epoxy) strictly per the manufacturer's guidance.
  • Pour the backing material between the concave and head, ensuring proper flow to eliminate voids. Let it cure!
  • Reinstall the mantle and tighten the locking nut to the specified torque.
  • Reattach the feed plate and reset your automated liner-wear tracking system.
05

Startup & Monitor

  • Restart the crusher and recalibrate the Closed-Side Setting (CSS) to ensure the desired product size.
  • Closely monitor early performance—listen for unusual sounds, observe vibrations, and verify proper feeding drawdown.

💡 Useful Tips at a Glance

  • Swap as a Pair: Always replace both the mantle and concave simultaneously. Mixing old and new liners disrupts the crushing profile and ruins aggregate shape.
  • Cure the Epoxy: Always mix and apply the backing material properly and let it cure fully before subjecting the crusher to load.
  • Track Liner Wear: Benchmarks like a 10% drop in throughput or a remaining liner thickness below ~2.5 cm (1 inch) signal it's time for an immediate replacement.
